It was the most perfect Sunday morning. The house was calm, breakfast was on the table, and I was sitting across from the love of my life. We were officially one week into living together. Doesn’t seem like a big deal however when two independent people attempt to merge both of their very established individual lives together, it’s a lot. A lot of communication, a lot of patience, a lot of work, and more than just a lot of prayers.
As he sat across from me, he was trying to pick out a song to go along with his Instagram reel featuring his new BMW in the driveway. I was mostly ignoring him clicking through the song options until I heard a singer chime “..I’ve been praying to God..” The lyrics didn’t stop there but that was all that caught my attention, my head snapped up from my plate and I looked at him with a smile. Knowing how hard this man prayed for everything to work out with his vehicle situation, that was the song he needed to add to the reel.
The moment didn’t end there though. “I’m going to cry” he said to me with tears in his eyes. “Seriously?” I said chuckling. I’ve never seen this man cry; in fact, he didn’t seem like the crying type at all. “I’m serious.” He replied, tears now rolling down his cheeks. “I just feel so blessed.” I got up to hug him “God is so good” I said wrapping my arms around him. He posted the reel, and we finished our breakfast. It was one of the most wholesome moments I have ever experienced.
We talked about how just five months ago we were meeting at a movie theater for our first date and just like that here we were. Receiving blessing after blessing from God in a matter of no time at all. I knew exactly what he felt. When God blesses you with something you have been praying for you cannot help but feel overwhelmed with emotion. He doesn’t know it but that’s how I feel about him often.
I prayed so hard for God to give me a man like the very one sitting across from me at breakfast on this morning. I never imagined when I was praying to God for a man of faith that He would give me a man that tells me to pray more. A man that asks me if I have spent time with God lately. A man that sends me the daily Bible verse and sings worship music with me. “God, I don’t care if he worships a blade of grass, I just want a man that believes in something, so that he has that to lean on when things get tough.” I literally prayed for the bare minimum. Similarly, the man across from me was simply praying for a vehicle and God blessed him with this BMW.
I watched him wipe his tears brought on from feeling overwhelmingly blessed by an answered prayer. Simply smiling because here I was on the most perfect Sunday morning sitting across from my answered prayer.
The lesson: It doesn’t matter what you are praying for, whether it be a man of faith or a BMW. God hears and answers your prayers. Even better, He often gives you much more than what you asked for.
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
